The story started in Paris in 1977, when a 20-year-old watchmaker decided to create his own piece of best tourbillon watches simply to prove himself that he could do it. The watchmaker's name was François-Paul Journe .
It took him several years, but in spite of everything he completed his
first pocket luxury watch with a tourbillon that was never meant to be
sold.
It was in 1983. In fact, for that time such models, even the best
tourbillon watches, were not the craze they are today because of the
pernicious effect of a tourbillon on accuracy.
In 1884, François-Paul trying to fix it created his first Remontoir
d'Egalité thus attracting the attention of major collectors of high-end
luxury watches like Eugen Gschwind.
In 1991, another tourbillon model was created – this time it was Journe's first wrist luxury watch. It was also equipped with a remontoir d'égalité regulating the delivery of energy to the balance wheel. However, it was not a new idea. Such brilliant watchmakers as Berthoud, Breguet, and Lépine already had it in mind. So what is so special in this FP Journe's patented device? Its lightness and, what's remarkable, the simplicity!
Moreover, the remontoir d'égalité has a very cleverly mounted dead-beat
seconds system allowing the seconds hand actually moves and dies every
second (like in an accurate quartz watch movement). Amazingly, but it is just a natural remontoir's by-product! Our compliments to the great talent!
